8/21/2023 0 Comments Silverlight macIt points out that companies such as Continental Airlines have adopted Microsoft Silverlight for use in their reservation system showing that Microsoft knows which side its bread is buttered on. The Silverlight homepage boasts: 'Learn how Silverlight is right for your business'. The signs are, however, that Microsoft has already realized that the battle for web content is being won by the much slicker and more stable Adobe Air platform, and is therefore aiming Silverlight at business users. In fact, this latest release is is of particular interest to developers because it adds 60 customizable controls, new layout containers, 'deep linking' for page bookmarking, search engine optimization, and enhanced data support. If you want to create content for Silverlight, you'll need Expression Studio and Visual Studio. Microsoft Silverlight can stream high-resolution video well and supports HD-quality videos. ![]() If your bandwidth drops below 3Mbps, smooth streaming will kick-in so that your video isn't affected. The smooth streaming feature will iron out many of the streaming problems that have plagued Silverlight in the past. The out-of browser player however is dependent on developers embracing it and as yet, there are few examples available. The most important improvements to the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight are smoother streaming, DRM management, and an out-of browser player. ![]() There is no prompt to restart the browser after installation but I recommend you do so because the first site of Silverlight content I accessed after installation simply crashed the browser. It works with most major browsers, including Firefox and Safari. You can hack JAVA RTE to display a false version, and play streams set to require a version of X or higher, as the RTE code hasn't really changed much.Microsoft Silverlight is a lightweight plug-in that allows you to watch Silverlight-based content in your browser. I don't think that merely hacking the version would help, mainly due to the ever-changing DRM algorithms. Businesses such as Netflix want people to use Silverlight, primarily because it is closed source, and thus, harder to hack to remove DRM-encryption from streams. Silverlight is terrible in general, and if it was an open-source project, it would likely be far better, but it's a Microsoft product, so we all know what to expect.Įven if you did have a port of an older SL5 version, the few websites that rely on it would force you to upgrade, by refusing to serve streams on older versions. I really can t overstate this: The primary reason that new PPC software doesn't exist is that open-source code isn't available. You are quite correct: This is precisely what I was discussing in another thread, regarding PPC support from third-party businesses. I'll check all these links at home later on an unhacked machine and promptly disprove all my theories I don't know what use it is to anyone, but the website at detects the plugin and the Microsoft Windows Server 2012 site (which is apparently built with Silverlight) seems to work OK. The latest version (Silverlight 3.0) put the plugin back to version 1.0 for some reason so I'm not using that one. I installed them all to see what did what, and finally found that if you install Silverlight 2.0 first, then Silverlight 3.0 it was detected as a plugin by the browser. Well, I went to and downloaded every version one by one, then hacked them all to remove the InstallationCheck file. You know the Silverlight 2 hack where you fool the installer into letting you use the plugin on PPC machines - see. ![]() This may help someone, or it may be a complete pile of poo, but here goes.
